Great article I remember seeing it in the theaters my kids were young teenagers so I didn’t feel it was age appropriate but after seeing the film I sat them down and told them they needed to see it later…they had drag queens as babysitters and multiple uncle couples in their lives but heaths character in his struggles would teach them a lot about our chosen family thank you for pointing out this remarkable actor taken too soon

Thank you for your kind words for reading for sharing your own connection. You are correct I think, perhaps a bit advanced for young teenagers but you are also right to tell them its a must watch for in my opinion this is by leaps and bounds his greatest most influential work. Know that you are quiet literally building a better world for our tomorrow by sharing these stories and teaching your children in this way.

We never know what words we say to our children will live rent free in their heads. In making sure that what you are teaching is seeing the value in others-you are leaps and bounds ahead of far too many parents.

You are too kind. All my Firebird are special, but Heath—he is a very rare bird of legend indeed.

With allies like Heath, what need have we of fear? Certainly not quailing before a demented orangutan.

Out of the closets and onto the streets! Follow those firebirds!

He truly was. It’s always great to work with @Hundred Tomatoes but this one meant something special. While still learning to love myself like Ennis, I wept when I watched Brokeback in my youth fearing what it meant for my life.

Now I weep because I realize I was seeing what loving yourself as gay looks like on screen for the first time—and I didn’t even see it. I weep with joy and love and a renewed sense of how far we have come—and how far I long for us to go.
